Summary

If you have ever used Wordpress you have no doubt come across Bluehost at some stage. Bluehost was launched in 2003 and has quickly grown into one of the top 20 biggest web hosting companies in the world. The company was founded by Matt Heaton originally but he stepped down as CEO in 2011 after being acquired by Endurance International Group the previous year.

Bluehost: Company size, main territories and languages

Bluehost hosts millions of domains on its in-house servers in Utah in a workspace of over 50,000 square feet. Seven hundred and fifty people work there for the company and there are agents available 24/7 to support their customers. The primary language on offer is English as the company is an American one but people from all over the world use them to host their websites.

Bluehost : Provided services and webhosting plans

Bluehost offers a variety of services for their customers. They are primarily known for their Wordpress hosting, but they also offer shared hosting, dedicated hosting, VPS (Virtual Private Servers) hosting, Cloud Hosting, WooCommerce hosting, and others. Some of the technology powering their servers are NGINX+ caching, HTTP/2, and PHP7. Bluehost offers an array of extra services as part of their hosting service. Some of these include email accounts using POP3 and IMAP support, backups, and an easy to use interface called cPanel which makes it really easy to manage domains, websites, files, and emails - particular for beginners or those not overly tech-savvy.

Why trust them and what their clients say

Bluehost has a market share in the hosting industry of around 11-12% making them one of the major players, and the vast majority of companies that use them are located in the United States. Some of the top companies that use Bluehost include Dresco Design, The Swell Cafe, Design Source International, Yasutomo INC, and Cyentist INC. The most famous company to endorse Bluehost is Wordpress. It's said that Wordpress powers around 30% of the web and Bluehost is the first hosting company that they recommend on their own website - and it is easy to see why. Bluehost make it so easy to get a website powered by Wordpress up and running and live. There is no confusion over downloading Wordpress files, moving them from folder to folder, no need to even open the wp-config.php file and edit it. Bluehost is extremely handy for those who have an idea for a website and would like to get it up and running quickly and without having to learn any new technological skills or information.

Had to pull my site from Bluehost as they have some pretty sleazy up-sell methods if you are on a base level plan. Did not even have an active site at one point and was getting threatening emails telling me I had a virus on my web

site and I had to upgrade to unlock my service??? What the heck???
That happened twice. Once with absolutely no website or service provisioned and one more with a couple pictures posted.

Bluehost support is bad. Yes you have live chat but it's entirely outsourced to third-world countries and they are painfully slow at replying. As well, I upgraded from shared hosting package to cloud hosting and they did something wrong in the transition and my website went down.

I then had to create a ticket and it took 4 days to get an update on the ticket. As well, in terms of page speed, the "Server response time" is always above 1 second, which is way above the Google Page Speed recommended limit of 300ms, and this is with cloud hosting which is supposed to be fast. All in all, if you haven't chosen yet, don't choose bluehost.

The only reason I'm still with them right now is because it would be a pain the *** to move all my sites and contact with no downtime or seo hit. Stay away

We bought a shared hosting for 3 years, the biggest mistake of my life. Value per money is the worst thing. Support was loading hours everytime I wanted to fix something.

Leaving from this hosting after 1 year, I know there is no refund policy for the rest of the 2 years it's lost money, but I hope people who read this feedback won't choose this company. Search before you choose.

J'ai décidé d'héberger un petit site chez Bluehost, je n'ai eu aucun soucis depuis maintenant deux ans.

Petit plus: documentation bien faite.

In my sense the first review for bluehost would be with a word 'easy'. Yes, It is easier for the beginners to work with. It offers quite easy interface and tools to work with.

The speed is also quite good but it lags somewhat when it comes to bigger websites. Now, talking about the downtimes, I actually didn't experience it anymore than a single time and that was pretty much okay for my site. But just as case with speed, the bigger websites might have problem with this so I would refer them a better one on market.

The pricing is decent for the first subscription but it takes quite high in the renewals. The support is not that appreciable. In times, they are slow to deliver although their FAQ is quite rich.

They also offer with pre-made video tutorials which is of course a plus point. So, overall Bluehost is an average hosting site and is perfect for beginners while the others on market are better for the bigger websites.

Big time NO. I have been them for many many years before I shopped around and realized that I am heavily overcharged. They make you sign up for their hosting with really attractive prices but before you know they will be charging y

ou three times more. It is also impossible to unsubscribe from add-ons unless you contact them directly because they disable this option in your management settings. Also downgrading from Pro to more basic options is made highly unattractive because they make sure that for EXISTING customers the downgrading has different price so you are STUCK with your PRO option even if you don't need it. Yet when you complain about it, they point to the well hidden pricing pages saying that all information was there from the beginning.
Oh, in fact, they hide all this pricing information on their website very very well. You are left to see only what THEY want you to see unless you really dig in using searching engine. Go to their website and see for yourself. At the moment I was leaving them instead of $2.95 - $5.45 Shared Hosting claimed here I was paying around $18.

Because BlueHost was not user friendly at all and did not come close to meeting our needs, we went with a company that served our specific business type. We went through the cancellation process with BlueHost and had our new provi

der do what needed to be done to reroute our website and emails to them. We received email confirmation that our account with BlueHost had been cancelled. However, nearly 3 years after we cancelled our services, they charged our credit card almost $300. When we contacted them, they needed the last 4 characters of the password for the account. Who remembers that from when we set it up 7 years ago? They refuse to use any other method to verify the account. The explanation they gave for the charges was that we had set up for annual renewal...but the account had been cancelled and this is the first charge from them in 3 years. Its a SCAM!

I have been with Bluehost for several years. I always give their support team kudos. However, in the past year, their email is getting worse and worse.

Their servers are black listed and they don't do anything about it. They respond with "Try sending it again in an an hour when the servers rotate." This affects everyone in my business. We are working and with this kind of terrible service, we never know if your email goes through to a client or customer.

Their excuse is that email servers are shared so things like this happen. When I point out that email has been this way since before AOL and companies like AOL, gmail and others seem to deliver email just fine, the rep always seems to finally admit the senior management at Bluehost is not funding email support to force people to buy paid email services. IMO, email is a cost-of-doing-business type of feature.

Meaning if I buy a car, a steering wheel is a cost-of-doing-business feature. I have a car (Bluehost) and it used to have steering wheel one hundred percent of the time. Now, the steering wheel is only there 70 of the time while I am driving.

I then call the service department, they tell me it's not a safety risk. I should keep the car but get an Uber (Paid Gmail) to be able to get to work every day for reliability and safety. My answer is no thanks.

I just get any other car on the market, even one like GoDaddy which I hate, and get a working steering wheel. It reminds me of the old Lily Tomlin skit about the phone company. She would always say, We don't care.

We don't have to. We're the phone company. At least with hosting companies, there are many options.

It was nice while it lasted Bluehost. I have been patient trying to let you get your act together. Good luck.

Worst hosting server now a days. The biggest issue is they are hiding their problems and blaming users themes or codes and all. Their server crashes every now and then and when back my website shows a cached version.

All the work or updates I make goes away. I had to clean my browser cache so many times and also made them clean server cache several times. Then again site goes down and my site returns to old version.

horrible. They don't even admit they are down which I always check through several website downtime checkers. Do not buy Bluehost Hosting. I have been using and referring bluehost for so many years but now I don't, stay away from them.
